Hardscape help to create visionary urban spaces by supplying high quality landscaping materials to architects and local authorities.
We’re lucky Hardscape are one of our long standing clients here at Door4, having worked with them now for 8 years. Creativity is a big deal to them, so they work hard to inspire their customers when designing public realm spaces in the UK and Ireland. The recent project brief was to create a new website that really showcased the projects they have been involved in. They also wanted the site to be more user friendly, helping customers to find the products they needed with ease.
We set to work on designing, developing and creating a bespoke website to match Hardscape’s needs. We kept in mind their desire for rich imagery, creating an impactful website, utilising images at their highest resolution. These featured previous projects Hardscape have contributed to, or close ups of each product, carefully curated from Hardscape’s extensive product portfolio.
It’s all in the brand
We also worked closely with Hardscape to build on their current branding; our creative team designed and implemented icons for their service offering ‘Inspire’, ‘Select’ and ‘Supply’. This added another dimension to the image and content-rich website.
When looking at the products Hardscape supply, and there are a lot (376 to be exact), we needed to show them in a user-friendly way. So our team developed a nifty product selector tool.
This consisted of two sections; one to determine the material type and then another to define further by which colour they were interested in. We used html to create a colour wheel, with a hover element to make it really simple to use.
The team used Ajax technology on this element to maximise the customer experience and minimise time required to locate product specific content. This helped minimise page-load times, increasing overall engagement.
Hardscape’s website was designed and built with responsiveness in mind; at any width the top navigation bar will alter to show a consistent and suitable view. This works across a variety of devices, including: desktop, mobile and tablet. It was important to ensure this worked site-wide, specifically on the product selector pages.
As for content, there was a lot of information Hardscape needed to get across to their customers, in a manageable way. Prior to launch we migrated all the content from their old website to ensure no vital information was lost during the re-build. Part of the design was also to include a user-friendly news section, to display all their posts effectively. We also introduced an easy to use FAQ section, with lots of detailed information for their customers.
What they said about us
“We have an excellent working relationship with Door4; having worked on the launch of our Sister company website Stockscape at the end of 2013. This gave us the confidence to ask Door4 to build our main site for Hardscape.
A journey not without its up and downs but Door4 proved to be good listeners, flexible and quite simply professional on all levels. We now have a website that is modern, dynamic and easy to navigate which gives us a great working template to expand and develop for future phases as we look to grow as a business.”
